This 2013 photograph depicts a plaque commemorating 100 years of mining research, beneath which, a time capsule had been placed. The plaque is located in Pittsburgh, PA, and had been placed by the Office of Mine Safety and Health Research (OMSHR). The OMSHR mission states:

   - "Our mission is to eliminate mining fatalities, injuries, and illnesses through research and prevention. We are a division of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).".
