This 1975 photograph depicted a sewage affluent, as it was being pumped into what became a polluted stream. The shadow of the photographer can be seen projected upon the opposite stream bank. This image stresses the importance of environmental regulations governing what, and where waste materials may be contained. With no such regulations, wastes would be stored in unsafe containers, hazardous to the environment, or as in this case, pumped directly into what was originally, a clean environmental area. Such activities could possibly contaminate the drinking water of nearby zones of human habitation. Gases expelled from these sites, can also negatively impact the air breathed by these same inhabitants.
