Caption:
This anteroposterior (AP) chest x-ray of a young female patient, revealed normal pulmonary findings. The x-ray was captured during inspiration, which means with her lungs filled with air. The area between the lungs is known as the mediastinum, and it is within this region that the heart and its great vessels, the esophagus, trachea, and lymph nodes reside. In this case, the heart was of normal size, and you will note that the dome of the diaphragm was depressed upon inspiration.
