Caption:
This 1973 image depicts a number of growing marijuana plant, Cannabis sativa leaves. The leaves can be palmately compound, or as in this case, digitate, with serrate leaflets. Except for the first leaves to sprout, which display only two leaflets, as the plant matures, the newer leaves display an odd number of leaflets, maximizing at 13. However, the number of leaflets, again diminishes, as newly spouted leaves are manufactured at the top of a mature plant, to a single leaflet per leaf.
