This photomicrograph of a Gram-stained vaginal discharge specimen, revealed numerous, Gardnerella vaginalis Gram-variable-staining coccobacilli, as well as two large vaginal epithelial cells in the field of view. Formerly, G. vaginale was known as Haemophilus vaginalis, and subsequently referred to as Corynebacterium vaginale.
