This x-ray depicts a dorsal view of a patient’s right hand revealing the boney destruction, as a result of a coccidioidomycosis infection involving the right ring finger’s middle and distal phalanges. Note the severe swelling of the finger due to the chronic inflammatory reaction in response to the invasion of the soft, and boney tissues, by the Coccidioides sp. fungal organisms.
