Caption:
Under a magnification of 970X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology displayed by a species of the filamentous fungus of the genus, Gliocladium. Note the numerous floral like, spore-bearing conidiophores. The thin-walled, hyaline conidiophores are branched. At the distal tip of each conidiophore reside the flask-shaped phialides, which are topped by single-celled conidia, forming a floral like configuration, referred to as a penicillus, from Latin for tuft of hair.
