This is one in a series of twenty-four images (PHIL 16125 - 16148) captured at a memorial ceremony exhibit entitled, “Honoring Dr. Stephen B. Thacker”. This image depicts what was a glass ball paper weight representing the earth, which had been presented to Dr. Thacker during his tenure as the Director of the Epidemiology Program Office (EPO) from 1989-2004. The mission of the EPO is, “To strengthen the public health system by coordinating public health surveillance at CDC and providing domestic and international support through scientific communications, statistical and epidemiologic consultation, and training of experts in surveillance, epidemiology, applied public health, and prevention effectiveness.”
