|Description:||This is one in a series of twenty-four images (PHIL 16125 - 16148) captured at a memorial ceremony exhibit entitled, “Honoring Dr. Stephen B. Thacker”. This image depicts what was a desk clock, which had been presented to Dr. Thacker during his tenure as the Director of the Epidemiology Program Office (EPO) from 1989-2004. A gold plate on the clock was inscribed with the following, “Stephen D. Thacker, M.D., M.Sc., Director, Epidemiology Program Office, August 1989-September 2004”.|
The mission of the EPO is, “To strengthen the public health system by coordinating public health surveillance at CDC and providing domestic and international support through scientific communications, statistical and epidemiologic consultation, and training of experts in surveillance, epidemiology, applied public health, and prevention effectiveness.”.
The photographic series was compiled March, 2013. The CDC Public Health Library and Information Center hosted an exhibit honoring Dr. Thacker’s life and contributions to the CDC. The exhibit remained on display from early February, through the EIS Conference in late April of 2013.
