Photographed in 1975, this image depicted a wooden pedestrian bridge that crossed the Punpun River, which flows through the Indian states of Jharkhand and Bihar, and like all similar bridges in this region, with each passing monsoon, the bridges are washed away only to be rebuilt when the high waters recede. The photograph was taken by a Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Bureau of State Services staff member during one of the smallpox immunization-related trips to that region of the world.
