This Petri dish culture plate contained a growth medium of Sabouraud dextrose agar, which had been inoculated with the fungal organism, Pseudallescheria boydii, formerly known as Petriellidium boydii, and Allescheria boydii. The single, large colony displayed characteristic features, including a wooly, cottony texture, and a white coloration, which with age, would become dark gray to smoky brown.
