This image depicts a step during the necropsy of a dog, which died due to a Coccidioides fungal infection known as coccidioidomycosis. At this point in the examination, the animal’s thoracic cavity had been opened, retracting the ribs bilaterally, thereby, revealing the contents of the thorax, including the heart, lungs and thymus. Of note, are the numerous chronic granulomatous lesions involving the pericardial sac and thymus, and atop the visceral pleural membrane.
