This graph entitled, Estimated incidence of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), by quarter-year of diagnosis, and number of deaths, by quarter-year of death, among adults with AIDS – United States, 1985-1998, reveals how in the early years of the AIDS onset, the death rate and case rate, were almost equivalent. However, as time move on, the death rate of AIDS cases began to move lower, while the case rate remained higher. Note how both the case rate, and death rate, dropped precipitously in 1993, when the new Aids Case Definition was implemented.
