|Description:||This patient presented to a clinical setting with an inflammatory condition involving the glans penis and prepuce, causing fissuring of the preputial skin. The causative agent, in this case, was determined to be mycotic in nature, and more specifically, a Candida sp. organism. Therefore, a diagnosis of Candida balanoposthitis was made.|
Balanitis is an inflammatory condition of the glans penis, and if the prepuce is involved, the condition is more precisely known as balanoposthitis. Balanitis can be caused by a fungal agent such as Candida spp., a bacteria, most commonly Streptococcus sp., or a viral pathogen such as herpes genitalis.
