Caption:
Under a moderate modification, this photomicrograph revealed the histopathologic changes in a human skin sample from the site of a number of scabies burrows, due to an infestation of Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Note that the mites had burrowed into the epidermis, or upper layers of this patient’s skin, just superficial to the stratum basale, also known as the stratum germinativum.
