|Description:||This image depicts two test tubes each having been filled with O/F glucose (dextrose) medium, and inoculated with an unknown non-fermentative, non-oxidative bacterial organism. O/F glucose medium consists of agar, glucose, peptone and a pH indicator. Mineral oil had been added to the tube on the right in order to prevent air from interacting with the medium underneath.|
The organism can be identified as one that neither oxidizes glucose, i.e., non-oxidative, nor metabolizes glucose through a fermentation process without the use of oxygen, i.e., non-fermentative. Therefore, the medium in either tube remains unchanged from its original greenish-brown coloration. No glucose metabolism took place, leading to no changes in the pH in either tube.
