Caption:
This image depicts two test tubes, each having been filled with O/F glucose medium, and inoculated with an unknown non-fermentative, non-oxidative bacterial organism. O/F glucose medium consists of agar, glucose, peptone and a pH indicator. Mineral oil had been added to the tube on the right in order to prevent air from interacting with the medium underneath. The organism could be identified as one that neither oxidized glucose, nor metabolized glucose through a fermentation process without the use of oxygen. Therefore, the medium in either tube remained unchanged from its original greenish-brown coloration. No glucose metabolism took place, leading to no changes in the pH in either tube, and hence, no color change in the pH indicator, as was the case in PHIL 15369.
