This image depicts the thoracic region of a patient, who had been diagnosed with a case of the tubercular form of leprosy, or Hansen’s disease, caused by the bacillus, Mycobacterium leprae. Of note, are the swellings of the intercostal nerves (arrows), which are visible at the skin surface, above the areas representing the locations of the underlying respective intercostal nerve pathways.
