Under a magnification of 1115X, this photomicrograph of a Gram-stained specimen, revealed numbers of Gram-positive, Corynebacterium matruchotii, formerly Bacterionema matruchotii bacteria. Note the whip handle type morphologic appearance exhibited by these organisms. Normally found in the human oral cavity, these bacteria are composed of a thickened terminal end, attached to a thick, elongated filament.
