This image depicts the upper thigh of a male patient in a clinical setting, who was being treated for a case of balanitis, which had been accompanied by the swelling of an associated lymph node, known as lymphadenopathy, or referred to as a bubo. Balanitis is an inflammatory condition of the glans penis, and if the prepuce is involved, the condition is more precisely known as balanoposthitis. In this particular case, the cause of this inflammatory state is unknown, however, balanitis can be caused by a fungal agent such as Candida spp., a bacteria, most commonly Streptococcus sp., or a viral pathogen such as herpes genitalis.
