Using a histology technique known as a spore stain, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of the Gram-positive, spore-forming, anaerobic bacterium, Clostridium ramosum, formerly known as Eubacterium filamentosum. The arrowheads identify spores that were contained in vacuoles in this unidentified tissue sample. Note the characteristic tennis racket-shape assumed by these endospores.
