This 1970 image, showed former Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Engineering Services staff member, Jesse Herringdine, as he was installing a glove port in a Class III isolation cabinet, located inside what was once the organization’s Maximum Security Laboratory, also referred to as a box lab. In this view, were a number of other containment cabinets, which were airtight, and able to contain highly-pathogenic organisms, allowing for observation, while keeping them from contaminating the laboratory environment.
