This graph entitled, Trends in cigarette smoking among persons aged = 18 years, by sex – United States, 1955-1997, and compares the percentage of men to women who were smoking between these years. It’s important to note how in 1955, men were smoking at a higher rate than women, but dropped throughout the years, while the rate for women smokers initially rose, then began a gradual drop-off until 1997, to a level comparable to the 1955 reading. It appears that men were always smoking at a higher rate than women during this period.
