This is a laboratory desktop on which was placed a number of bottled foods suspected of being contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium responsible for causing botulism. At this point, this technician was preparing some of these items, mixing the appropriate ingredients in a mortar and pestle, which would be tested for the presence of Clostridium botulinum, and botulinum toxin.
