Description:This image depicts three ground squirrel specimens: on the left, a thirteen-lined ground squirrel, Spermophilus tridecemlineatus; in the center, a spotted ground squirrel, Spermophilus spilosoma; on the right, an antelope ground squirrel, Ammospermophilus leucurus.
For additional views of the spotted ground squirrel S. spilosoma, see 14312, and PHIL 14308, for the thirteen-lined ground squirrel, S. tridecemlineatus. These and the antelope ground squirrel, A. leucurus, have all been found to be involved in various plague epizootics.
