Aug. 23, 2011, second update

This image depicts what the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-13 saw, as Hurricane Irene approached the Bahamas on August 23, 2011, at 1932 UTC (3:32 p.m. EDT). No eye was visible in this image, but the extent of Irene's large cloud cover is seen from eastern Cuba over Hispaniola. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, operates the GOES satellites, and the NASA GOES Project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. creates images and animations using that satellite data.
