Caption:
Under a low magnification of 80X, this hematoxylin-eosin-stained (H&E) photomicrograph depicts the cytoarchitectural changes found in a liver tissue specimen extracted from an Ebola disease patient in Zaire. This particular view reveals “disseminated acidophilic necrosis, microvacuolar fatty degeneration, and a discrete histiolymphocytic infiltrate into the periportal space". In 1997, Zaire changed its name to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
