From the “Illustrated Manual for the Recognition and Diagnosis of Certain Animal Diseases”, published in 1982, by the Mexico-United States Commission for the Prevention of Foot and Mouth Disease, this photograph depicts a close view of the right eye of a bovine infected with African malignant catarrhal fever (MCF). Of note, is the clouded cornea in the early stages of opacification, as well as the accompanying blepharitis (inflamed eyelids), and conjunctivitis. The virus responsible for causing MCF is a Herpesviridae family member, and a member of the genus, Rhadinovirus.
