Description:This image was created during an investigation into an outbreak of monkeypox, which took place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), 1996 to 1997, formerly Zaire. Pictured here, was epidemiologist Ali Khan, M.D. and the mission nurse, as they were in the process of “bleeding”, i.e., extracting blood, from one of the village inhabitants.
