This historic 1997 image was created during an investigation into an outbreak of mpox, which took place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), 1996 to 1997, formerly Zaire. Pictured here, was French epidemiologist Dr. Philippe Malfait, and Richard Peabody, from the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET), conducting a meeting in the town of Ekanga, before heading out into the surrounding villages. PHIL images 12745 through 12784 depict a full slide presentation telling the story of this investigation.
