Using immunohistochemical (IHC) technique, this photomicrograph of a central nervous system (CNS) tissue specimen, revealed some of the histopathologic changes associated with a Nipah virus infection, in this case affecting a human patient. Infection with Nipah virus has been associated with an encephalitis, characterized by fever and drowsiness and more serious central nervous system disease, such as coma, seizures, and inability to maintain breathing.
