This x-ray depicts a posteroanterior (PA) projection, i.e., viewed from the back, of a patient’s chest, which reveals the presence of a thoracic aortic aneurysm. The patient developed this aortic aneurysm due to what was diagnosed as a latent, or tertiary syphilitic infection. Syphilis is caused by the bacterium, Treponema pallidum.
