This image depicts an inferior, intraoral view of a patient’s hard palate, revealing the pathologic changes in palatal anatomy, which resulted in a perforation into the nasal cavity, and was due to a congenital syphilitic infection. Syphilis is caused by the bacterium, Treponema pallidum.
