Caption:
This image depicts two slant cultures, each containing an agar-based growth medium, which had been inoculated with Trichophyton violaceum fungal organisms. The tube on the left, contained a medium rich in the protein, casein, while the tube on the right contained casein, and vitamin B1, also known as thiamine. The purpose of these cultures was to demonstrate how the presence of thiamine acted to stimulate growth of this fungal organism, which was made quite evident, considering the colonial growth on the thiamine-free medium versus the thiamine-inclusive medium.
