As a closer view of PHIL 12478, this photograph depicts the colonial morphology displayed by Gram-negative, Brucella suis bacteria, which were grown on a medium of chocolate agar, for a 72-hour time period, at a temperature of 37°C. See PHIL 12475, for a view of these bacteria grown on the same medium and temperature, but for only one-third the time period (24hr). Also note PHIL 12476 and 12477, again depicting B. suis organisms, which were grown on both the same medium and temperature, but for only two-thirds time period (48hr). Brucella spp. bacteria are pathogenic towards humans, and cause a disease known as brucellosis.
