This photograph depicts the colonial morphology displayed by Gram-negative, Brucella abortus bacteria, which was grown on a medium of chocolate agar, for a 24 hour time period, at a temperature of 37°C. For a closer view of these bacterial colonies, see PHIL 12369, as well as 12397 for a view of B/ abortus colonial growth on the same medium and temperature, but for twice the time period (48hr). Brucella spp., including B. abortus, cause a disease known as brucellosis.
