Magnified 1125X, this thick film blood smear photomicrograph, revealed a Plasmodium vivax gametocyte, reddish in color, and displaying virtually no visible cytoplasm. The protozoa P. vivax is a member of the genus Plasmodium, and along with its co-members, is responsible for causing the disease malaria.
