Description:This historic 1966 image depicted a Centers for Disease Control’s laboratory technician, as he was operating an AutoAnalyzer in order to conduct a protein-bound iodine (PBI) determination.
The AutoAnalyzer, manufactured by Technicon Corporation, used a continuous flow analysis (CFA) technique, which automated what was once a manual process of sample analysis. Automation quantitatively increased the sample analyses per day from but a few, to hundreds or thousands per day, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
