Caption:
This 1960 historic image depicted a laboratory technician as she was seated at a biological safety cabinet equipped with a vented hood. The negative pressure within the hooded space, pulled air into the hood, thereby, keeping contaminants from escaping out into the laboratory environment. See PHIL 12011 for a color version of this image. Modern day protocols, now call for the laboratorian executing such tasks, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety goggles, gloves, and a facemask.
