Properly preparing fresh, uncooked produce is a must, and with this in mind, the elderly woman pictured here was teaching her grandson how to do just that, while peeling a number of sweet potatoes.

She was imparting her knowledge of how to safely use a knife to accomplish the peeling. During such activities, when using sharp instruments, injury prevention need be foremost in one’s mind.

Prior to peeling the tubers, cleansing is also very important, which will remove environmental pollutants, such as pesticides from the foods’ surfaces. Maintaining a sanitary kitchen is also an important aspect to food preparation, therefore, the countertop and sink needs to first be cleaned as well, using soap, and fresh running tap water, in order to remove any pesticides or unwanted chemicals from their surfaces too.
