Photographed in the Republic of Benin, formerly known as Dahomey, sometime during the 1970s worldwide Smallpox Eradication Campaign, this image depicted a small child suffering with a case of smallpox, so severe, that the maculopapular pustules had coalesced over the child’s entire body.
