Caption:
This 1971 image depicted a frontal view of a Petri dish culture in which a small colony of Chlorella sp. algal organisms had been cultivated. The genus Chlorella, is composed of members of single-celled microalgae, containing high amounts of both chlorophyll-a, and chlorophyll-b, and is therefore, very photosynthetically efficient. Note the very dark-green, almost black coloration of the single, chlorophyll-rich colony.
