This 1968 image depicted a region of skin surface of a smallpox patient, upon which a number of classical smallpox maculopapular lesions can be seen, as well as what was an unidentified irregularly-shaped, ulcerated lesion, which could possibly have been this patient’s smallpox vaccination site.
