Caption:
This 1962 photograph depicted the left palm of a young male smallpox patient in Cardiff, Wales during an epidemic. These lesions were classified as vaccinial-modified variola major, for in this case, the patient, who’d been successfully vaccinated, had contracted the disease five days earlier. See PHIL 10378 for view of this patient's face for the presence of additional lesions, whereupon, the eruption sites coincided with the sites of previous acne vulgaris eruptions.
