Photographed in 1962, this image depicted an Indonesia man who was ill with smallpox, and was displaying the characteristic maculopapular rash, which had spread over his chest and arms. At this stage, the rash was 4-weeks-old, and almost all of the scabs had fallen off, leaving behind depigmented, healing lesions, characteristically in the form of pitted scars.
