Caption:
Under a magnification of 2485X, which is 32X greater than PHIL 10118, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicted the surface of the left compound eye of an unidentified hornet found in the suburbs of Decatur, Georgia. This eye was one of a pair, which along with other sensorial structures such as the hornet’s antennae, and hair-like setae, provided the hornet with data indicative of changes encountered in its environment such as chemical, thermal, and tactile queues.
