Caption:
Depicted in this 2007 photograph, was Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Biologist, Damien Danavall, as he was performing a multiplex real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) assay, able to differentiate between four sexually transmitted organisms, responsible for causing genital ulcerations. PCR produces large amounts of replicated DNA, or RNA molecular sequences. Using this process, very small amounts of these nucleic acid molecules can be analyzed.
