CDC’s presence in the online virtual world, Second Life, launched in August 2006. Dr. John Anderton designed the initial CDC space, using in-world tools, creating hyperlinks to CDC websites, including the MMWR, CDC.gov homepage, CDC podcasts and the Public Health Image Library, PHIL. What you are seeing here, was referred to as the Public Health Poster of the Week billboard feature, and was part of an exhibit featuring CDC public health posters from the first 6-decades of the CDC’s existence. Dr. Anderton also designed a television studio inside the Second Life space, in order to be able to stream video in and out of this virtual world, which could be used to facilitate training for Second Life participants.
