This digitally colorized scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image, revealed the rosette-like appearance of the matured SARS-CoV (coronavirus) particles (arrows). This image emphasized the form and structure of the virus particles, or virions, made visible with negative staining (inset) under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Short and stubby spikes, were visible on the virus' surface.
