Judging from its abdomen’s reddish color, this image depicts a close-up right, lateral view of a blood-engorged female, Aedes albopictus mosquito, feeding on a human host. Under experimental conditions, the A. albopictus mosquito, also known as the Asian tiger mosquito, has been found to be a vector of the West Nile virus.
