This image depicts an anterior view of a child’s head and neck, revealing the swelling that was evident, due to the bilateral enlargement of the parotid salivary glands, which was caused by the mumps virus. In this child’s case, there was accompanying swelling and tenderness of the thyroid gland, as well.
